Health and Physical Education at Murray Bridge High School places the emphasis on health-related fitness and developing the skills and habits necessary for a lifetime of activity.

This program includes skill development and the application of rules, tactics and strategies in a variety of sports. In preparation for the implementation of the Australian Curriculum the Health and Physical Education program aims to provide students with weekly physical activity. Also, the Health and Physical Education Faculty aim to provide students with an engaging and relevant curriculum that enables them to enhance not only their own health and well-being, but that of others.

Health and Physical Education emphasizes a personal commitment to lifetime activity and fitness for enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and social interaction. This curriculum provides students with opportunities to achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical fitness. Also the curriculum enables students to develop and strengthen healthy relationships and gain the knowledge necessary to make decisions that enhance their overall health.

Health and Physical Education is an integral aspect of an individual’s hollistic educational experience. It is the only subject area which primarily utilizes a medium of physical activity to obtain educational objectives.

Although motor development is of primary importance, a great deal of emphasis is also placed on the individual’s cognitive and affective development. The sequential and progressive design of a comprehensive curriculum, which is based on the individual’s needs, abilities, and interests, produces students who understand the dynamics of exercise, enjoy life-long physical activity, maintain desirable levels of fitness and make healthy choices for emotional, social, physical and cognitive well-being.

Our goal is to develop confident, self-reliant, and self-directed individuals who are capable of reaching their full potential as productive members of society.
