On Thursday September 21st, MBHS Year 7, 8 & 9 students celebrated the United Nations International Day of Peace by hosting a special assembly to introduce our five new Rotary Club Peace Poles in the Remembrance Garden.
These Peace Poles are part of Rotary South Australia's Peace Pole Project, an initiative development to commemorate 100 years of Rotary in South Australia. These remarkable poles have been set into the ground, and on each side, you'll find the Universal Peace Message, 'May Peace Prevail on Earth', written in four different languages. We're fortunate to be receiving five of these Peace Poles, each representing the diverse nations that make up our school community.

Our Student Voice Representatives ran the assembly, and the Message for the International Day of Peace from United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres, was delivered by Rotarian Sam Cozens, giving the international context of the occasion.
Guests at the ceremony included Murray Bridge Rotarians, Principal Ruth Mussger, Mayor Wayne Thorley, Member for Hammond Adrian Pederick, and a number of representatives of parent organisations.

The formal ceremony was followed by a celebration morning tea in the staffroom for the guests, and the Student Voice Representatives.

Year 12 Health & Wellbeing students Mia, Taylah, Jazmin, Sasha and Katie took part in the Blue Tree Project to raise awareness and start important conversations about mental health, which is an issue we believe affects everybody. To do this we have established and painted a tree blue within our school, which is located near the Swanport Road end of the oval.

This was done in the hope that more people will be able to view the tree, to spark more conversations within our community, and allow people to feel okay to not be okay and seek support when needed.

Last weekend, our school's Pedal Prix Team successfully completed the grueling 24-Hour Murray Bridge Race. Our students showcased remarkable teamwork, unwavering dedication, and outstanding support for one another throughout the challenging event. Despite the scorching temperatures, our students demonstrated resilience and gave their absolute best.
In the Senior School Category, we achieved impressive rankings, securing the 15th and 42nd positions. Overall, we proudly placed 50th and 132nd. These accomplishments reflect the incredible effort and commitment of our Pedal Prix Team.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our parents, caregivers, dedicated MBHS staff, and generous sponsors for their unwavering support throughout the weekend and the entire season. Your encouragement played a crucial role in our success.
As we reflect on this remarkable achievement, we're already eagerly anticipating next year's event. With your continued support, we aim to make it even bigger and better. Together, we'll continue to inspire excellence in our Pedal Prix Team.

In the Year 7 Pondi classes, we have been learning about 'Water in our World' in Geography. Students shared the afternoon on Friday with Aunty Cheryl, hearing stories about her childhood and experiences growing up on the Murray River. We enjoyed learning about the cultural significance of our Murray River and the way Ngarrindjeri people care for the river, especially the message of "taking only what you need". The students had many questions about how the river the river was used, and how it has changed. It was a lovely way to end the week!

Exploring the art of Chinese calligraphy with our talented Year 8 students. 

Today in our Year 8 Chinese language class, students explored the art of Chinese calligraphy writing. It's truly amazing to see their dedication and creativity shine through their brush strokes. I'm so proud of my students for their incredible progress in just one lesson.

Chinese calligraphy is not just about writing; it's about capturing the essence of each character through the brushwork's flow and rhythm. It's a journey of self-expression and self-discovery. Throughout our calligraphy writing session, our students demonstrated great patience and dedication. We are excited to see their skills grow as they continue to practice and explore this rich tradition.

Last week, we were fortunate enough to have the Australian Girls Choir spend the week in Murray Bridge. This is the first time they have collaborated with our students since 2015.

On the Tuesday, 58 girls from the Australian Girls Choir (AGC) and their staff joined the Murray Bridge High School Vocal Ensemble students for a day workshops and rehearsals. After a morning of workshops, our choral director, Mr Blake Ascione taught one of vocal ensemble pieces to the AGC. In turn, they then taught 2 more songs to our students. After an hour and a half all choristers had learnt the 3 songs, which were then performed the following day at the concert at the Town Hall.

On Wednesday they all met at the Town Hall to prepare for a combined concert in the evening. Joined by the MBHS Senior Stage Band, the Vocal Ensemble and Senior Vocal Ensemble put on a concert to remember with the Australian Girls Choir for the Murray Bridge community. After a short matinee performance to Primary Schools, MBHS middle school student and some members from some local aged-care facilities, the ensembles put on a brilliant evening performance. After supporting our vocal ensembles, the AGC put on a spell-binding show, that wowed us with some beautiful singing and fabulous choreography, highlighted by their rendition of the Peter Allen classic, I Still Call Australia Home. At interval, concertgoers were treated to a delicious supper provided by year 12 student Fiby Cotton with support from Roxanne Rowland. For the Finale, our vocal ensemble joined the AGC in the 2 songs we had learnt earlier in the day, Cup of Life and Louder than Words and to finish, the year 12 band joined with them as well as they sang, Stand Up from the musical, Harriet featuring solo vocals from Siena Fountain Barr. 

Thank you to the Australian Girls Choir for entertaining us and inspiring our vocal students to greater heights. It was fantastic to see the confidence grow as the day progressed and the smiles on the faces of the students as they had an experience that will stay with them always. Our visual art students in Years 7 and 8 have taken part in the Create4Adelaide Project, a year-long initiative launched in 2023. This ambitious project aims to foster the creative talents of young people and encourage them to engage with pressing climate change concerns in their local community. By participating, our students have had the chance to showcase their artistic skills, expand their thinking and contribute to a meaningful cause. It's an incredible opportunity for young people to be part of something significant and make a positive impact.

Earlier in the term Mr Perriman guided year 9 visual art and design students through a print making unit, with an Australian nature theme. The students did exceptionally well and should be proud of their achievements!

Sheep Team Report
On Saturday 23rd of September Agriculture students attended the annual Murray Bridge Show. 

The sheep team had a very successful time competing against 3 schools, Tintinara Area, Unity College and Oakbank Area all who presented a quality line-up of wethers and handlers. We were successful in obtaining 1st prize for Best Carcass Merino Wether. In the handlers, all 7 students held their own in some pretty tight competition. In the Year 9 class, Riley M came 1st, Riley V 2nd, Danica D 3rd and Makaylah C 5th. In the Year 10 class, Stephanie B came 5th. In the Year 11/12 handlers, Megan C came 2nd. Riley M then competed in the Champion Handlers class and came 5th overall. In the Young Judges competition, Stephanie B came 3rd in the Merino Sheep Judging and Ari B was selected in the top 7 for oral presentations for the Merino Wool Judging.

A massive congratulations to all our students involved in the Show team at the Murray Bridge Show. You should all be extremely proud of your efforts and the way that you represented our school community.  A big thank you to staff and parents who came around to support our students at the show, it was great to see you all there!

Farm Produce Report
Students during their agriculture lessons have helped to prepare fruit, herbs and eggs for the Murray Bridge Show. We were lucky enough to walk away with 1st for our bunch of Mint, 1st for our Collection of Herbs, which included mint, parsley, rosemary and thyme; and 2nd for our eggs. Well done to the students who helped to prepare these items for the show!

Dairy Cattle Report

There was a large turnout of Dairy Cattle supported by local breeders and schools at the show. Students had the opportunity to practice their show skills in both Breeder and Young Handlers classes. 

It's always rewarding to watch students working with show animals  and developing their skills and confidence in the ring. Well done to all students involved, it was a fantastic day with some ribbons awarded.

Megan C, Emma L and Layla Mae L put in a fantastic effort in the handlers classes with Abby A awarded 2nd in her Senior handlers class, Jacinta C awarded 6th and Autumn S 8th-  a fantastic effort considering the size of the classes!!
A special mention to our old scholars Steph Lokan and Coen Martin,  who gave up their day to assist with mentoring the younger handlers.  Also to the Afford Family and especially Tegan Afford for supplying extra calves and heifers for students to lead in handlers classes. Thank you!

This term in ELOW HPE we explored a range of games and sports that developed basic throwing, catching and aiming skills. 

During weeks 1 - 5 we explored target games, which are activities where players send an object towards a target while avoiding any obstacles. Students developed their knowledge and application of the key skills involved in target games such as aim, force, accuracy and decision making. All students enjoyed games such as basketball accuracy games, bean bag toss, target relays and badminton balloon keep it up and rallies. As well as the opportunity to design their own target game which could be played by their peers. We had some outstanding achievements by the students. A special mention goes out to Ahmed who, with practice throughout the term, was able to achieve a badminton rally of 17 shots in a row. We even had a student design a game in the shape of a Christmas tree! All students worked well together and tried their best throughout the target games unit. 

Throughout the remaining weeks of the term, we focused on developing our knowledge and skills in relation to the World Cup sports that were happening at the time; netball, soccer and rugby union. Highlights included watching Australia win the Netball World Cup, developing our Soccer skills with small-sided games and playing rabbits, hares & foxes to learn Rugby evasion skills. As the Rugby World Cup continues, students have kept a close eye on the winning teams and have created player profiles of captains from all around the world! “GO THE SPRINGBOKS” shouts Nicolene.

To finish off and to celebrate a successful term of learning, the students were treated to an excursion to the Bridge Bowling centre. There were many smiles and competitive spirits shown on the day and some outstanding results with many students achieving strikes and spares! 

We are looking forward to a big Term 4, full of learning, fun and development! We will be focusing on teamwork, collaboration skills & how to lead a healthy lifestyle.
