In recognition of National Reconciliation week, our Year 9 and 10 Visual Art students have engaged with our Aboriginal community on the theme ‘Be a voice for generations’. They have listened to the perspectives and stories shared by our Aboriginal community members, drawing inspiration to create unique designs. These designs were then submitted to our Aboriginal community for the final selection of one design for each mural. The students have begun the process of bringing the designs to life by creating four massive murals each measuring 2.4 meters square.

This mural will be proudly placed on the external library wall overlooking the quadrangle. 

The Youth Art Prize Exhibition starts on Saturday 24th June and runs until 20th August at the Murray Bridge Regional Art Gallery we have several students exhibiting their work so please head along to support our students.

Zinia King, an Adelaide Hills self-employed artist gave a talk including a workshop for Year 10 Career Immersion week. Students learnt that Zinia started out selling her work as part of a cooperative at markets in her second year of University, she said the best advice taken from University was to develop a particular style, which people would recognise. Zinia went on to demonstrate her style and technique, then students took part in creating their own artworks. Zinia explained how she has successfully grown her business which now operates through three key areas: product sales, commissions and teaching/workshops. Students were inspired to see a young, successful woman running her own art business!

Wednesday the 14 June saw the evolution of our annual Music Showcase Winter Sounds into the captivating Creative Design Showcase. On Thursday in Week 6, our Year 10 Volleyball Specialist Class attended a tournament held at Reynella East College in Adelaide. Our students had to plan everything, including the draw, the scoring systems, the rules for the tournament, as well as their team names, plans and positions. Our students performed exceptionally well, placing 1st, 2nd, AND 3rd in the tournament, but most importantly, they played and refereed with respect for other teams, and also with pride for our school and our values. They even made friends with some of the other teams! Thank you for your hard work - the tournament was epic!

On Sunday our Pedal Prix teams competed in our second 6 hour race. It was held at Victoria Park in Adelaide. Aftershock started 14th and Aftermath started 33rd on the grid. On the first lap of the races both of our trikes avoided big collisions and were trotting along very nicely. We had few knocks to the trikes over the day, which has resulted in some cool stories from the riders. There were a couple of disruptions throughout the race due to the Pedal Prix timing systems, but our students continued to race to the best of their abilities. The rain held off and we didn’t encounter any flats or mechanical issues.

Aftershock finished 13th and Aftermath finished 87th out of 143 trikes. Our next race is on the 5th of August at The Bend.

This term the Certificate II in Construction students have been building a mini house from the frame to the plastering. Building these constructions allows the students to demonstrate a range of competencies that will form their completed certificate. 
It is also a great way for the students to decide what area within the construction industry they want to pursue as a career.

On Wednesday the 14th of June, selected SAASTA Connect students were invited to attend the SAASTA Connect Winter Carnival at St Clair Recreation Centre on Kaurna Land in Woodville. We were joined by many schools from across South Australia including the Riverland, Yorke Peninsula and Adelaide metropolitan area. 

On arrival, we were separated into different groups. A big focus of the day was to interact with different people and to make connections with people not only from our own school, but from across the other schools as well. In our different groups we then rotated through a range of activities run by School Sport SA. We participated in European Handball, Ultimate Frisbee, Team building activities, cultural painting and interacted with a Volleyball Commonwealth Games Gold Medalist Damien Schumann. 

SAASTA treated us to lunch and snacks throughout the day, as well as giving us all drink bottles to take home. The winning group from the day, according to their team work, leadership, communication and sportsmanship, won SAASTA Bucket Hats. 

We had an awesome day!

On Thursday the 15th of June, the year 8 Wirakuthi and Pondi Global Perspectives classes went on an excursion to the South Australian Museum and Botanic Gardens as a part of our HASS unit on Shogunate Japan and English unit on Poetry.

A great time was had by all, and the students were commended on their respectful and polite behaviour by the staff at the museum. According to the students of 8WR, the highlights included the giant squid in the museum, the beauty of the Botanic Gardens, and of course, the privilege of having lunch in the Myer food court. The Nori and Kungari year 8s enjoyed a similar excursion a week prior.

All the students from ELO were gifted their own life jackets today through a grant organised by ac.care and The Royal Life Saving Society.  We are very grateful and would like to thank Teresa and Christine from ac.care for presenting these this afternoon. We would also like to mention and thank Tameliya for all her efforts in making this happen. 

We are looking forward to future adventures down at the river and being able to use our life jackets! 

Over the last couple of weeks our school netball teams have been competing against other schools within the State School Sport Knockout Netball Competition.
Our year 11/12 team played Wednesday Week 6, against Berri High School and Unity College. The games were quite close but unfortunately we lost both. 
Our year 9/10 team played Friday Week 7, against Keith Area, Mount Barker High and River Mallee Districts. The team won against River Mallee, lost by 1 to Keith and by 6 to Mount Barker High.

On the 21st of June the 7/8 girls had a netball carnival located at the Karoonda netball courts. A big thank you to Leah who umpired each of the 4 games and we would like to express the appreciation of Shana Weston who coached all of 10 girls.

The first game versus RMD was at 9:30am was an unfortunate loss by 1 goal but the girls were eager for the next. We went into the second match versing Unity but went down by 5. The final 2 games were against St Francis and St Joes and we were strong enough to win both.

Overall the girls had a positive attitude going into each game and great discipline when it came to playing. 

As a part of our year 12 sports studies class, we are organising a fast 5 netball carnival for selected classes in year 9.

The netball carnival will be held on Monday 3rd of July and will be a whole day event. The year 9 PE classes will undertake various weeks of training developing nd learning new skills in preparation for the carnival. The training sessions are run by the year 12 sports studies class by the selected coaches, umpires and coordinators. Whilst the other students are busy behind the scenes promoting, planning and organising the requirements for the carnival.

Types of donations include gardening tools, hand tools, and job-specific tools.
