If you listen to Triple J, you might be lucky enough to hear some of our Murray Bridge High School music students on there!

MBHS students Seth, Cooper, Nicholas and Jayden have entered 3 original songs in the Triple J Unearthed competition. Their band (called Exit Plan) were inspired by the Australian rock band Silverchair as they too entered the competition which led them to national and international success and popularity. Exit Plan entered the competition in the hopes of following in Silverchair’s footsteps of getting discovered in the Australian music scene. 

The three songs they have released are titled “Love letter to no one”, “Sellout” and “All gone”. The meanings of these songs have themes from struggles with body image to addiction. However, the band desires that audiences relate to the music in their own way and form their own meanings about the songs. 

Exit Plan was first established in 2018 when the two founding members Seth and Cooper were in primary school, the band started to take off in 2022 when Nicholas joined Exit Plan as the bass player after they met at Murray Bridge High School. After around a year of playing locally and around Adelaide Jayden joined the band as a second guitarist and singer.

The first day of term 3 began with a wonderful surprise! The mural created to commemorate Reconciliation Week has been completed and is now proudly on display for everyone to admire.  We would like to give a special mention to the talented students who designed the mural canvases.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Kylie Brunato, Catherine Alcock, and Gilbert Tuazon, the art teachers who played a vital role in supporting students with this mural. We also want to give special recognition to Cheryl Love, Brooke Goyne, and the Aboriginal Education team and community for their unwavering support and dedication in making this mural a significant part of Murray Bridge High School.

The Year 12 Child Studies class developed and delivered an engaging and fun lesson to all the ELO students. Students enjoyed various obstacle courses and successfully followed instructions. Great work to all students!

The Open Boys Knockout Football team played in 2 rounds of the schools sport competition. In the first round the boys were quite successful in defeating both Birdwood and Berri High Schools. In the second round, the boys were unfortunately defeated by a close 11 points to Tatachilla Lutheran College. Mr Tabe and Mr Gilfoy said they were very proud of the boys playing all of their games in a fair and respectful manner as well as their performances.

In Week 10, Term 2 Murray Bridge High School students and staff participated in a number of activities to celebrate NAIDOC week. On Monday July 3, 60 students and staff participated in the annual bridge walk, walking across the Bridge to the council chambers with a number of students staying on for the award Ceremony and family fun day. 
On Wednesday July 5 students had the chances to engage with a number of activities led by the Aboriginal Education team including NAIDOC colouring & painting, bracelet making and boomerang colouring. Wednesday afternoon staff engaged in 90 minute NAIDOC themed activities run by the Aboriginal Education team. Staff had the chance to listen to dreaming stories told by Aunty Cheryl Love & Nathan Taresenko around the fire pit, painted wooden boomerangs with Jibba Windgard & Jared Daly and made bracelets with Gloria Ebsworth, Livia Baron and Lyndsee Frost. It was a fantastic afternoon for staff to immerse themselves in our local Ngarrindjeri culture to celebrate NAIDOC week. 
On Thursday 6th July the Year 9 SAASTA Connect class held an elders morning tea where they invited elders from their family to come in for a celebratory morning tea. During the celebrations the Eileen Mchughes- Ursula Crowley Award was presented by Peter Crowley with a number of other guests joining the celebrations.

This year we have been trialing an “Industry” class for English, Maths, AIF and Industry
Connections. The students in this class are all undertaking a VET course and the idea behind
this was to contextualise their learning to the industry they are interested in. This class
comprises students undertaking Certificate 2 in Cookery, Construction, Engineering, Automotive
and Certificate 2 in Early Childhood Education and Care. Students are gaining SACE credits in
both their VET and the subjects they are undertaking at the school.
Through this class students are exposed to industry, through guest speakers and excursions,
and are also encouraged to undertake work experience. Work Experience is incredibly valuable
for students looking for an apprenticeship or traineeship Already this year we have seen five
students gain apprenticeships. Most recently, Deakin Gower has gained a full time School
Based Apprenticeship in Automotive and Craig Gillett has started a School Based
Apprenticeship in Cabinet Making.

Certificate II in Automotive is one of the popular VET courses that we offer at Murray Bridge High School.

Students in this course get skills to identify, inspect and perform basic repairs to
the mechanical and electrical components of light and heavy vehicles. Recently students have been learning about suspension systems and engines.
Two students from this group have already gained full-time School Based Apprenticeships.

Enrolments for 2024 are now open. Students are required to complete the VET  to start the process.
