It's a busy time of year at the farm as students have been preparing the livestock for the Royal Adelaide Show. Students from year 8 through to year 12 have the opportunity to participate in practicals at the farm preparing the animals. 
Practical lessons have been spent halter training, washing and getting the heifers, boer goat wethers and merino wethers and their handlers ready for the show ring.  This year has been especially rewarding to see Senior ag students mentor younger aggies and pass on the knowledge they have learnt over the years preparing animals for the show. 
Students will participate in events at this year's  Royal Adelaide Show from Saturday 2nd September until Thursday 7th September.  

Agriculture students have had multiple opportunities to carry out lamb and kid marking with lots of farm babies this term. Students have been ear tagging, castrating, tailing and vaccinating. They have practiced their skills with the Merino and Suffolk lambs and Boer goat kids. 
Students spend a lot of time with babies cuddling and playing with them. Goats will eventually be sold and processed for meat and the lambs sold at the livestock market. 
 

Over the past two terms, Agriculture students at Roper Road Farm have been busily preparing for the upcoming Royal Adelaide Show. In the sheep team, we have prepared 5 Merino wethers by monitoring nutrition, trimming fleece and hooves, as well as monitoring animal health and welfare. In the last couple of weeks, students have been learning about sheep selection and selecting animals for group classes. Out of the 5 wethers, 3 have been selected, by our Year 9 Agriculture students, to represent the school in the Pen of 3 Wether Competition, to be held on Wednesday 6th September at the Royal Adelaide Show.  We would like to take the time to thank Steven & Brett Koehler of Radnor Merino Stud for the supply of our show wethers. Your help and support of students in the merino wether competition is greatly appreciated.

Students have also prepared wool for this year's show as well. We have entered 4 fleeces into the wool section, two in the Schools Wool Competition, which we are eligible for as we had two teams of wethers at last year's show, and two fleeces in the RAHS Country Shows competition, one wether and one ewe fleece. To be eligible for this competition we had to have exhibited and won champion fleece at a country show in the Spring 2022 & Autumn 2023 country show circuit. The wool section is judged prior to the show so results will be published soon.

On Tuesday 29th August, our Middle School Leaders met with the Commissioner of Young People who are embarking on a series of consultations with young people around wellbeing to better understand what wellbeing means to them and how schools can best support young people’s physical, mental, and emotional health. Our leaders were asked to design the best school ever. This included brainstorming ideas for actions that could be used to create more welcoming & inclusive schools, healthier schools, more interesting lessons, and more opportunities to have a say. The Commissioner said the students "were a fantastic group and had many valuable insights on wellbeing & how schools (as a whole) can better support students. Thank you! We were impressed by their contributions". 

The Australian Girls Choir has been providing high quality Performing Arts education and wonderful performance opportunities to many thousands of girls from across the country for nearly 40 years. In week 9 of this term, they will be in Murray Bridge and are running workshops for and performing with MBHS students. The workshops will be on Tuesday the 19th of September at school. On Wednesday the 20th of September the Australian Girls Choir will performing in a public concert at the Murray Bridge Performing Arts and Function Centre (Town Hall) from 6pm supported by MBHS ensembles.

Murray Bridge High School students Courtney and Sasha are hosting a fundraiser to shave teachers and students hair in hopes to raise money for breast cancer. 
This cause is very important to many people within our school and community, and the girls  want to raise awareness and donate all proceeds to help.

The Year 9 @ Work class have been busy volunteering, at their latest location Monarto Zoo. This is in collaboration with the Murray Bridge Rotary Club, helping to  remove fencing in preparation to build a strong and secure enclosure for the animals. The space will be used to transition from the zoo into their natural habitat.  

On Friday 18th August, Year 9 @ Work students represented Murray Bridge High School at the 50 year Anniversary for the end of the Vietnam War. Students marched with veterans down Bridge Street, which was followed by a service at the War Memorial at Sturt Reserve. The students were invited to participate in the march following their volunteering involvement at the Murray Bridge RSL.
